Mukhra is a 1988 Pakistani
Punjabi-language action film directed by Talat Hussain. It stars Nadeem, Babra
Sharif, Sameena Peerzada, and Talish. The film was a commercial success and is
considered one of the classic films of Pakistani cinema.
The film tells the story of Powla (Nadeem), a village bumpkin who dreams of
being brave by defeating robbers. In reality, he is a coward. The mother of
Powla (Nighat Butt) dies suddenly due to
a snake bite and Powla wishes to die to reunite with his mother in death. He
tries to commit suicide by laying down on a railroad track but his plan is
foiled when some men find him there and take him to their boss. The men are gangsters and seeing Powla's innocence, they want to take advantage of him. They intended to use his death as a means to commit insurance fraud. Soniya (Babra Sharif) is the secretary of the gangsters.
Powla continued to try to find a way to kill himself. One day, a woman is injured by a gangster car. Powla sees her and takes her to the hospital. Her daughter (Sameena Peerzada) went to the hospital and ultimately her mother recovered. Grateful to Powla, she begins to see him as her son and her daughter considers him as a brother.
Powla begins to change her life for the better. He became more confident and courageous. He also loves Soniya. However, the bandits were not satisfied with Powla's transformation. They tried to kill him, but Powla was able to defeat them.
In the end, Powla found happiness and fulfillment. He is no longer a coward and he has found love. The film ends with a message of hope and redemption.
